July 18th, 2000 Cody has her foal at last!

After a long wait, Cody finally has her foal in the early hours this morning, Tuesday July 18, 2000. Like all the others, we were surprised to find him in the field, and even more surprised to find him following Amber and Shy around. Apparently Amber saw her chance to do a little child swiping and did just that. She had no intention of letting either us or this little guys momma get near him. After some thought Lori decided to register her new colt, "That's Notcho Mama" after the incident in the pasture first thing this morning. Little Notcho is doing well!

Poor Cody was feebly hobbling along behind trying to get near her baby. We hearded Amber and Shy into the back pasture, closed the gate, and fended Amber away from the fences (she plunges through fences regularly). We were then able to reunite poor little Notcho with his real momma, give him his shots, and take them into the barn for some quality bonding time together. This afternoon I will set them out into the dirt pen together for some sun, and to let little Notcho stretch his legs. Notcho is the third foal this season at Brasic Farm, and the third straight stud colt. Maybe 2001 will be a good season for the fillies.
