May 12th, 2000 Latte has her kittens
Not to be outdone by her two sisters, little Latte has her kittens on Friday, May 12th. These births are a harbinger of things to come, as Betsy delivers her baby the next day. In ten short days we add a fifth horse, and fifteen more cats! One kitten has the same coloring as Latte (Cream Tabby), the other four are Mackeral Tabbys (2) and Greys (2). We have still not seen Kiara's kittens as she had them in the woods near the house and they are very well hidden.

May 13th, 2000 Betsy has her foal!
Ty's Timely Tot has his first nap after a long and stressful ordeal. Lori and I were very concerned that this foal would be born before I returned from Milwaukee, so I drove home as fast as I safely could and we spent all night Friday night checking on Betsy. We even pulled up a couple bales of hay and slept out in the barn last night till about 5:00 AM but no baby. We decided that she would probably deliver on the evening of the 13th because everything good happens on the 13th in our family. We mowed the orchard today, cut a path through the woods to the orchard, and spent a couple hours resting and watching a movie.

Just after dark Lori and I went out to the horse pen to bring the horses in and there was an extra horse in the grassy run Betsy was in!! Thank goodness we put Betsy in the grassy run rather that putting her in with the other horses. Little Tybo was just standing there swaying in the dark right next to mama's legs. All our plans went right out the window. I got ahold of Betsy and managed to lead her into the barn (a miracle) but the door to the stall didn't get shut and she busted out frantically looking for her baby. We finally managed to herd them both into the barn after about an hour and little Tybo had a nice warm milk before his nap (see top photo).
